Dear Evan Hansen Chester Theatre reviews
Cross is a genius.
The stage was taken by Dear Evan Hansen as vultures and demons filled the night, awaiting their prey. Some tried to put themselves above his comedy, while others aimed to make him a catch phrase celebrity. However, there were those of us, the saucy-eyed, psychedelic-taking, open-minded individuals, who recognized David's spur of the moment comedy skills from his improv work on "Arrested Development" and "Mr. Show." We knew that hecklers' outbursts would only showcase his on-the-spot comedy at its finest. Despite feeling sympathy for the devil during his times of ridicule, he demonstrated professionalism in handling hecklers.
Dear Evan Hansen managed to present almost nothing but new and original material amidst the drunken scorpions and snakes with their senseless stings and bites. He covered topics ranging from politics and religion to sex and drugs. He even incorporated skits with comedic actors portraying fake audience members, a practice he has been engaging in since before his television career commenced in the 90s. This delighted fans who were familiar with his body of work.
The art of Dear Evan Hansen may be ahead of its time, but in times of decay where Americans tend to exacerbate the crises of human survival, we require a counter-culture comedian like David Cross to provide the honesty lacking in most mainstream media.
